Unbelievably cold weather constrained my adventures in Omaha to just a few locations near my hotel / the station. Fortunately positioned half way between the two was this incredible museum, originally Omaha Union Station. An architectural treat inside and out, with an unusual Egyptian-influenced art deco style, it’s already worth a look for any rail fan. But beyond (or rather, below) the lovingly preserved Great Hall are a wealth of other attractions: from vintage Pullman train cars to exhibits on social history (including the Trans-Mississippi Exposition, another topic I’m fascinated by). Allow plenty of time – I couldn’t fit in the two temporary features – and don’t forget to get a Sundae from the cafe back in the hall!
