As a warm up for the epic 36 hour run from Seattle to Los Angeles, I took a gentle introduction to Amtrak, re-positioning myself from Vancouver on the Amtrak Cascades. Apart from the much reduced pace, there is little about the service that would be unfamiliar to a regular user of long distance trains in Europe. However, this has to be one of the most attractive routes I’ve ever travelled on – helped by a window seat on the coastal side, and that the schedule coincided with a sunset over the water. Definitely a better option than flying the 120 miles between Vancouver and Seattle- and for $50 in business class, excellently priced too!
