In the Netherlands our exploration of the southernmost province, Limburg, ranged from the village of Schin op Geul, to the nearby town of Valkenburg, up to the provincial capital, Maastricht. We also covered plenty of rolling countryside on our way to the Drielandenpunt, the triple border with Belgium and Germany; a daytrip to the latter centered around the city of Aachen. Apart from the tripoint most of our time in Belgium was on trains, but that still gave us a chance to check out a remarkable piece of Calatrava architecture in the shape of Liege station.
